The Irish Heart Foundation has launched an easy-read guide called “Menopause and Your Heart Health” to explain how menopause affects heart health for women with intellectual disabilities.

According to research from Trinity College Dublin, less than half of women with an intellectual disability know what menopause is and what the symptoms are, a possible contributary factor to people with intellectual disabilities being at increased risk of death due to heart disease and stroke.
